Custom fitted mouthguards (i.e made specifically for your mouth) are the best protection for your teeth and soft tissues. They also help to avoid jaw damage and concussion by absorbing the force of any blow to the face. When one considers the costs that can follow dental trauma, it is a small price to pay to prevent damage from occurring. It should be noted that while cheaper mouthguards from sources other than dental surgeries offer some protection, it is minimal compared to what a dentist provides by taking an impression of your actual teeth.
